Celebrate Oxford: August 7th 2010

Some of this year’s Celebrate Oxford highlights include:

Helicopter Rides (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Have you ever seen a bird’s eye view of downtown Oxford?  You now can during Celebrate Oxford.  Oxford’s newest restaurant, Chardonnay’s, is holding helicopter rides for $35.  Tickets will be available for purchase outside the Oakland County Historical Museum. 

Oakland County Parks and Recreation Diaper Derby (12:00 p.m.)
Wow Baby!  This crawling race for babies will delight the whole family.  Stop by Kids Town to see what lucky Oxford baby will be crowned the King and Queen of the Diaper Derby.  The winners of each division will receive a crown and a bag of diapers for the family.  To enter your baby, email Victor at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Taste of Oxford (11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
Located directly next to Centennial Park, the Taste of Oxford features mouthwatering menu items from some of the best restaurants in our community.  Stop by and sample some of the newest dishes in town from one of our over 9 eateries!

Rotary Club Classic Car Show (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
Held in the SW parking lot behind 24th Street Sports Tavern, this nostalgic showcase of hot rods and cruisers will roll into downtown Oxford beginning at 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.  Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. 

Oxford Women’s Club Art & Exhibit Fair (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
An eclectic array of artistic vendors is what you will find at the Art & Exhibit Fair, located on Burdick St. just west of M-24.  From kettle corn to homemade furniture, this attraction at Celebrate Oxford is sure to delight visitors of all ages.  Contact Jude Cunningham at (248) 736-2343 for more information.

Kids Town (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Located just east of M-24 on Burdick Street, Kids Town is the prime attraction at Celebrate Oxford for children.  Popular activities include carnival games, inflatables, a rock wall and bungee trampoline, the ABC Tumblebus and LIVE entertainment on the Main Stage!  Wristbands will be available for $15 or 3 for $40 for children to partake in carnival games, inflatables, Rockwall and bungee trampoline. 

Battle of the Bands (5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
Oxford will be rocking at our second annual Battle of the Bands competition!  The performances begin at 5:30 p.m. in Centennial Park.  Along with our three judges, you have a say in this year’s winner.  The winning band will be booked to play the last Oxford Concert in the Park on Thursday, August 26th.

FREE Antique Appraiser (11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Burdick Street Station, Oxford’s authentic antique shop, will feature a FREE antique appraiser at their store located on Burdick St. just west of M-24.  Make sure to clean out that basement and rummage through your attic.  You never know what kind of treasures could be hiding in your home!

Business Expo (10:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Located on Burdick St., just west of M-24, the Oxford Chamber of Commerce Business Expo tent gives community businesses the opportunity to introduce themselves to the Oxford community.  Stop by and play business bingo and you could win a great prize!  Contact Holly Bills at (248) 628-0410 for more information.
